Special Blessing for the Animals by The Pet Chaplain - Join the Pet Chaplain Rob Gierka and others who would like to observe a moment of prayer for the precious animals. We are requesting prayers from 2-3PM EASTERN TIME on Sunday, 6/7/09. This truely is a multi-faith observance. There will be a public prayer event in Skype for all starting at 2PM. Anyone with a Skype account can join in the discussion and offer prayers, poems and memorials to their animals or all animals. On Sunday, 6/7 Chaplain Gierka will change the www.PetChapel.org home page to include the Skype discussion. It will be open to the public. Cats and Dogs must be at least 3 months old to receive a rabies vaccination. The first rabies shot a cat or dog receives is good for 1 year only. All pets must be brought by a responsible adult. Dogs must be secured on a leash and cats must be secured in a carrier box. Rabies & distemper shots are free with the purchase of a DC dog license. A dog license costs are $15 for a spayed and neutered dog and $50 for an unspayed or unneutered dog. Make checks or money orders payapbe to "DC Treasurer." No cash accepted. DC law requires that all cats and dogs, over four months old, be vaccinated against rabies and distemper. District law requires that all owners license there dog and wear the license tag.

Children's Story Time at Walta T. Daniel/Shaw Library 945 Rhode Island Ave, NW Washington, DC 20001. As part of DC Week for the Animals, Senior Librarian Eric Riley will be reading the award-winning sweet childrens book "It's Raining Cats - and Cats!" All young children are welcome. This session is for children ages 3-5, but this wonderful book is highly recommended for children of all ages! "It's Raining Cats - and Cats!," written by Jeanne Prevost and illustrated by Amelia Hanses, is the ASPCA 2008 Henry Bergh Award Winner in Fiction, Campanion Animals. Book is the first children's picture book to show, vividly and humorously, the importance of neutering.
